About
the Design
A play on opposites was MacKay's goal with this design. Like
a giant Fabergé egg, this bejeweled colossal is fascinating
to behold. The jewels in this design are created through the
use of mosaic. MacKay painted a majority of the design, and
then added highly detailed mosaic sections. The mosaic work
was done in stained glass and colored mirror. MacKay chose to
work on a Stegosaurus because the plates running down
its back create individual spaces within which to work. Each
of these plates has a mosaic section. Colored mirror allows
the piece to be constantly reflecting the changing light of
day, which brings movement and a sparkle of life into the design.
